CSU Open 2012

After a disappointing end to the league season at Districts, I decided to enter the CSU Open tournament and see if I could get back to my winning ways. It was a small draw with only 4 others signing up for Men’s 3.0 Singles but I hoped to make the most of it. Luckily, I did not get a first round bye, which meant that I’d get to play in the most number of matches, as long as I was able to win.

Looking Pretty Serious

Coming into a tournament, you never know what kind of competition you’ll face but I managed to make it all the way to the finals. I even brought my personal video/photographer along for the final match. I won’t bore you with any of the videos (they were mainly for my benefit) but here are some of the best pictures from the match.

Anticipation

I made the mistake of thinking I had it in the bag after the first set and didn’t eat anything between sets. My opponent stepped up his game though and I found myself in a battle. I started eating a little bit during each change of side after a few games but I was paying the price for my arrogance and my energy was fading. I even lost a match point at 5-3 and I wouldn’t see another until the very end. Some lessons you just have to learn the hard way I guess. I was lucky and had just enough in the tank to pull out a win.

Results

While it was great to get back to my winning ways, the best part of winning this tournament was that I got to go home with another trophy and not just the tournament t-shirt. Especially these shirts. Every participant got what appear to be left over “Colorado State Ram Tennis Fanatic” shirts, which will never be worn in this house. Even Brody didn’t want to wear it. ;-) GO BUFFS!

All rivalries aside, this was a great tournament. I played some good guys, met some nice people, and had a fun time.
